Supplementary Context Essay Index
This is a convenience list of the self-contained supplementary-context essays. Each gathers the historical, standards, or theoretical background that grounds a chapter’s argument but would interrupt it if carried in the main text, and each can be read on its own. The essays are referenced from the chapters they support, and all of them also appear in the single flat register at appendix-data-index.
Six modules are registered below: the Text as Building Medium essay and its citation ledger, plus the four Chapter 8 supplementary-context essays.
| Essay | File | Context it grounds |
|---|---|---|
| Text as Building Medium: Non-Graphic Construction Knowledge in Historical Practice | appendix-c–tmhr–essay | How buildings were specified and reconstructed from text rather than drawings (across Greek proportion systems, Japanese kiwari, and Vietnamese craft practice), grounding the floor-plan-as-text argument in Chapters 2 and 8. |
| Supplementary Context Appendix Citation Ledger: Text as Building Medium | appendix-c–tmhr–citation-ledger | The accompanying citation ledger for the essay above: twenty-one claims mapped to their citations and source tiers. |
| Ch8 supplementary context: dimensional modularity and ISO 2848 grounding for the 50 mm dominant grain (25 mm secondary sub-module) | appendix-h–ch8data–dimensional-modularity-and-iso-grounding | The modular-coordination standard ISO 2848 and Australian construction practice that situate the 50 mm dominant grain (25 mm secondary sub-module) of Chapter 8 (Section 8.21). |
| Ch8 supplementary context. Packing efficiency metrics: CEI, EEI, BEI and their isoperimetric and spatial-efficiency literature analogues | appendix-h–ch8data–packing-efficiency-metrics | The isoperimetric and spatial-efficiency literature underpinning the CEI, EEI, and BEI metrics of Chapter 8 (Section 8.42). |
| Ch8 supplementary context: polyomino combinatorics, dihedral symmetry groups, and grammar-based spatial generation | appendix-h–ch8data–polyomino-grammar | Polyomino combinatorics, dihedral-group symmetry, and shape-grammar precedents for the canonicalisation used by the Chapter 8 generator. |
| Ch8 supplementary context: topological coupling, adjacency graph theory, and the NCC silence on spatial adjacency | appendix-h–ch8data–topological-coupling | Space-syntax and adjacency-graph theory grounding the coupling matrix and its HARD, SOFT, and ABSENT classes in Chapter 8 (Section 8.33). |
